District Consulting managed a large-scale print and direct mail assignment for the DC State Board of Education (SBOE). The annual back-to-school announcement needed to reach K–12 households across Washington, DC despite a compressed schedule following FY2025 budget disruptions. District Consulting coordinated production of more than 27,000 bilingual, full-color postcards, verified postal routes and quantities across all eight wards, and worked with a DC-certified printing partner. The completed materials were submitted to USPS within the required window.
01 / The client
Keeping DC households informed for the new school year.
The DC State Board of Education needed to distribute its annual announcement to K–12 households across the District ahead of the school year.
The communication served families throughout all eight DC wards, with English- and Spanish-language creative in the approved postcard designs.
02 / The challenge
Meet a citywide deadline after budget delays.
Timing constraints associated with FY2025 budget approvals left a narrow window to print and prepare the annual mailing.
The assignment required a high-volume production schedule, postal route verification, and adherence to USPS Every Door Direct Mail requirements while maintaining quality and brand consistency.
03 / Our approach
Keep production, quality, and delivery aligned.
- 01
Build a compressed project timeline
Mapped print production, proof review, approval, and USPS preparation to the Board’s communication window. The Board’s Public Information Officer specifically commended rapid responses within hours and the team’s willingness to bring physical proofs for review.
- 02
Oversee high-volume print production
Managed more than 27,000 double-sided, full-color 6×9-inch postcards on durable stock suitable for USPS handling.
- 03
Verify routes and postal specifications
Checked the mailing routes and quantities for Every Door Direct Mail coverage across all eight DC wards, including the required mailing specifications.
- 04
Coordinate local certified production
Worked with a DC-certified printer, supporting local procurement participation and project execution.
04 / What changed
More than 27,000 mailers prepared on time.
27,000+ postcards
Oversaw printing of more than 27,000 double-sided, full-color 6×9-inch mailers.
Eight wards covered
Verified Every Door Direct Mail routes and quantities across the District’s eight wards.
On-time USPS submission
Printed materials were handed to USPS within the required window despite the tight schedule.
The project demonstrated how integrated scheduling, print oversight, postal planning, and local vendor coordination can support a high-stakes public communication deadline. In the Board’s August 2025 past performance evaluation, all five performance elements were rated Excellent, including quality, timeliness, cost control, business relations, and customer satisfaction. The reported delivery milestone is the USPS handoff, not independently verified household receipt.
Client feedback
“Fadzai’s team was an absolute pleasure to work with.”
Andrew Roof, Public Information Officer, DC State Board of Education
In his past performance evaluation, Roof highlighted responsiveness within hours, in-person proof delivery, and completion on time and within budget.
